POSITION: Director of Marketing and Public Relations, Division of Online Programs
EFFECTIVE DATE: August 2009
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, communications, advertising, or a closely related field
- Successful experience in developing a marketing plan
- Familiarity with the latest technologies related to marketing and public relations
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent management and public relations skills
- Ability and willingness to travel
- Ability to work effectively with all members of the University community and external publics
Desired:
- Master’s degree in marketing, public relations, communications, advertising, or a closely related field
- Experience in marketing educational programs
- Experience with online degree programs
- Knowledge of marketing communication preferences of the 25-50 year old age group
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Director is responsible for all aspects of marketing and public relations involving the University’s online programs, including print, electronic media, internet, direct mailing, and promotion at professional conferences. More specifically, the Director will:
- Develop a comprehensive marketing plan for online programs
- Collaborate with other Online Division staff in student recruitment and develop a procedure for evaluating and follow-up on leads from all sources
- Coordinate University representation at meetings and conferences and in school systems for the purpose of marketing the online programs
- Systematically assess marketing efforts and adjust marketing plan accordingly
- Handle public relations with online students and faculty, residential faculty, alumni, and external publics
- Publish an online newsletter on a regularly scheduled basis
- Fulfill other related duties as assigned by the Dean of Online Programs or other appropriate administrators
SALARY: Dependent upon experience and credentials; includes excellent benefits package

Position Summary: The University of North Alabama invites applications for a tenure-track position as Chair of the Department of Communications, beginning July or August 2009. With thirteen full-time faculty members and approximately 300 majors pursuing options in broadcast journalism, journalism, public communication, public relations, radio-television, and film/digital media production, the department seeks a leader with a strong commitment to teaching and curriculum development, effective interpersonal communication skills, and a collaborative spirit. Other expectations include creative/scholarly accomplishment and departmental and university service. The chair teaches six semester hours each fall and spring semester and three semester hours during the summer. He/she reports directly to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, the largest of UNA's four colleges.

Minimum Qualifications: Doctorate or other appropriate terminal degree in a communications-related area, understanding of current trends in communications, and sensitivity to the mutual needs of the areas represented in the department.
Desired Qualifications: Knowledge of and/or experience with the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC) process.
